What you can do

Your hosting dashboard, in a sentence.

Ask for the outcome. The assistant picks the tools, runs them in order, follows long jobs to the end and reports back.

Health checks across every site

Status, uptime, pending updates, latest backups, running tasks and resource use, summarised in one answer.

“Give me an overview of all my sites: anything down, failing or waiting for updates?”

Updates, the careful way

The assistant takes a backup, applies plugin, theme or core updates, follows the job to the end and checks the site still answers.

“Back up shop.example.com, update all plugins and tell me when it's done.”

New sites, clones and staging

Create a site, clone one, or make a staging copy. It tells you which build step it's on and when it's ready.

“Create a staging copy of example.com and tell me when it's ready.”

Speed and PHP tuning

Read CPU, memory and traffic, then adjust PHP limits, PHP-FPM, page cache and Redis, and flush caches.

“Why is example.com slow? Check its resources, caching and PHP settings.”

WordPress admin chores

One-time Magic Login links, password reset emails, WordPress users, settings, debug and maintenance mode, plugins and themes.

“Give me a Magic Login link for example.com's wp-admin.”

Domains and redirects

Add a custom domain and get the DNS records it needs, connect it, and manage server-level redirects.

“Add a 301 redirect on example.com from /old-pricing to /pricing.”
Connect in minutes

Three steps, no app to install.

MagicWP hosts the MCP server. You bring a token and the assistant you already use.

1

Create a token

In the dashboard, open MCP and pick For MCP (full) or For MCP (read-only). Copy the token; it’s shown once.

2

Add MagicWP to your assistant

One command in Claude Code, or a few lines of config in Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and Gemini CLI.

3

Ask

“Which of my sites have updates waiting?” The assistant answers from your live sites.

Claude Code
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user magicwp https://mcp.magicwp.io/mcp \
  --header "Authorization: Bearer mwp_your_token_here"

--scope user makes MagicWP available in every project. Setup for Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and Gemini CLI is in the docs.

54 tools

Read, change, and confirm what matters.

Every tool is marked by what it does, so your assistant and your client know which ones need a closer look.

Read

21 tools

Look without changing anything. A read-only token sees only these.

  • Site overview and uptime check
  • Metrics and activity
  • Pending updates
  • Backups and staging
  • PHP, cache and WordPress settings
  • Database size and clutter

Change

17 tools

Everyday work that is easy to change back or safe to repeat.

  • Create and clone sites
  • Take backups, create staging
  • Install and update plugins and themes
  • PHP and cache settings
  • Magic Login and password reset emails
  • Domains and redirects

Destructive

16 tools

Hard to undo. Each needs you to type the site's domain to confirm.

  • Delete or reset a site
  • Restore a backup over a site
  • Push staging live
  • Database search and replace
  • Delete plugins, users, backups
  • Remove domains

Safety

Powerful, and still on a short leash.

An assistant can only do what your token allows, and nothing destructive happens without you.

Your token, your limits

The assistant uses an API token you create, sees only the tools its permissions allow, and never more than your role.

Read-only when you want

The For MCP (read-only) preset lets an assistant look at everything and change nothing.

You confirm destructive actions

Deleting, restoring or overwriting needs the site's domain, typed by you. Keep your client's approval prompt on for these.

Everything in Activity

Every change is recorded in your activity log, marked via MCP, with your own IP address.

Short-lived login links

A Magic Login link made through MCP works once and expires after 5 minutes.

Nothing stored

The MCP server passes your token to the MagicWP API and forgets it. No passwords, billing or team management through MCP.

Lock it to your address

Limit a token to your own IP addresses. The check uses the computer your assistant runs on.

Revoke in one click

Revoke the token in the dashboard and the assistant loses access at once.

Plans

Included with every paid plan.

No add-on to buy. Once your plan includes MCP, it appears in your dashboard with setup steps for each assistant.

FAQ

MCP questions, answered.

What is MCP?
The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that lets AI assistants call tools in other services. MagicWP runs an MCP server, so an assistant you already use can work with your MagicWP sites.
Which AI assistants work with MagicWP MCP?
Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor, Codex and Gemini CLI, with setup steps for each in the docs. Any other client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP and lets you send an Authorization header works too.
Does it work in ChatGPT or Claude on the web?
Not yet. Those apps connect to MCP servers by signing in with OAuth, and MagicWP MCP uses an API token sent as a header.
Which plans include MCP?
MCP is included with paid MagicWP plans, at no extra cost. Your AI assistant's own subscription is separate.
Do I need to install anything?
No. MagicWP hosts the MCP server. You add its address and your token to your assistant. Claude Desktop uses the small mcp-remote helper, which needs Node.js.
Can the assistant delete my sites by mistake?
Destructive actions need the site's domain, typed by you, and your client asks for approval before running them. With a read-only token the assistant can't change anything at all.
What does MagicWP see of my conversations?
Only the tool calls your assistant makes, such as which site to back up. Your conversation stays with your AI provider. The MCP server doesn't store your token.
Can it edit my posts and pages?
No. MagicWP MCP manages hosting and WordPress administration: sites, backups, updates, plugins, settings, users, domains and redirects. It doesn't edit your content.
