WordPress hosting for stores migrating from Magento.
Magento models a catalogue more richly than WooCommerce does. Attribute sets, configurable products and multi-store scope all have to be translated, not transferred.
A catalogue model that needs translating.
Products, customers and orders all move. What does not move automatically is the structure Magento used to describe them.
Attribute sets become something else
Magento defines attributes per product type through attribute sets. WooCommerce has global attributes and per-product ones, so each set needs a deliberate destination.
Configurable products, flattened carefully
A configurable product with simple children is not the same thing as a variable product with variations. The mapping is mechanical but it has to be decided rather than guessed.
Customers move, passwords do not
The two hash passwords incompatibly, so accounts transfer and credentials cannot. Every customer resets on first login, and planning that email is part of the migration.
URL keys kept exactly
Magento's URL keys and category paths are what currently rank. WooCommerce would generate different permalinks for the same products, so those addresses are preserved with redirects.
Order history, intact
Orders, line items and their status history come across so support and accounting keep working, rather than starting from an empty ledger on launch day.
Decide the model, then move the catalogue.
Magento migrations fail in the mapping rather than the transfer. Once attribute sets and URL structure are settled, the volume is just time.
- Attribute sets mapped to WooCommerce attributes
- Configurable products rebuilt as variable products
- URL keys preserved with redirects
- Customer password reset communicated
A large catalogue, on a simpler stack.
Magento stores arriving here usually carry catalogues far larger than a typical WooCommerce install, which makes indexing and object caching the whole game.
What we change moving from Magento
These differ from a standard WooCommerce migration on the same plan, because the source describes its catalogue in a structure WooCommerce does not have.
| Setting | What we do | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Attribute set mapping | Each Magento attribute set matched to global or per-product WooCommerce attributes before import | Attribute sets define which attributes a product type even has, and WooCommerce has no equivalent container — so importing without a mapping produces products carrying every attribute the store ever defined. |
| Configurable product conversion | Configurables and their simple children rebuilt as variable products with variations | Magento models a configurable as a parent referencing independent simple products, while WooCommerce treats variations as children of one product, so a direct transfer leaves both the parent and every child listed separately for sale. |
| URL key preservation | Product URL keys and category paths reproduced with rewrites and redirects | The addresses a Magento store has accumulated authority on are generated from URL keys that WooCommerce would never produce, so accepting default permalinks discards the ranking history of the entire catalogue at once. |
| Order storage | High-Performance Order Storage enabled before importing order history | Stores migrating from Magento typically bring years of orders in one operation, and importing that volume into the legacy post-table layout creates a performance problem on day one that is far more disruptive to fix afterwards. |
| Customer accounts | Imported with a forced password reset and a planned notification | Magento and WordPress hash passwords incompatibly, so credentials cannot transfer, and an unannounced reset on a store with a large customer base arrives as a support queue on launch morning. |
